「文化」の生まれる場所

　さて，今日も遅くまでお仕事。この文章を読んでいる方の中にも，一日の半分以上の時間を職場という「場」で過ごしている方が多いことと思います。もちろん浜響の団員もほとんどが会社勤め。練習のある水曜日以外は，いつも（あくまでもお仕事で）午前様という猛者もいるようです。

　そして，午前様になろうとも必ず帰るのが家庭という「場」。少し大げさな言い方かもしれませんが，職場は「社会的生産の場」，家庭は「生物の生存，繁栄の場」として，どちらも生きていくうえで「必要不可欠な場」といえるでしょう。

　さて，自営業の方を除いて，ほとんどの会社勤めの人にとってはこの2つの「場」の間に通勤路という「場」が存在します。調べてみると，通勤という今では当たり前の生活スタイルが始まったのは，ヨーロッパで17世紀中ごろ。それまでの家内制（自宅が作業場）から工場制（ある場所に人が集まって集中的に効率良く作業を行う）へと産業のかたちが変化して，職場と住居の分離が始まったのだそうです。生きていくうえで必ずしも必要とはいえない「場」が，この時期に発生します。

　しばらくすると「コーヒーハウス」と呼ばれるお店が，通勤路に開店し始めます。文字通り「コーヒーハウス」は，当時ヨーロッパでは大変珍しかったコーヒーを楽しめる最先端のお店なのですが，やがてこの場所はこの目的以外に使われるようになります。

　通勤路という「場」の性格から，そこにいる自分は「職場にいる自分」でも「家庭にいる自分」でもないと感じます。そんな新たな自分同士が出会う場所として，コーヒーハウスという「場」が利用される。例えば，ヨーロッパの市民革命，これはコーヒーハウスでの政治談議が大きな要因の一つといわれています。それから，保険会社や株式取引所なども，コーヒーハウスでの経済や流通などの会話から生まれました。

　国によってこのコーヒーハウスは，カフェ，サロン，クラブハウス，などにかたちを変えて，政治経済だけでなく文学，ファッション，そして音楽の震源地として，人々にとってなくてはならない「場」へと発展していきました。

　浜松交響楽団は，来年30周年を迎えます。その記念事業として，記念演奏会や作曲の委嘱などさまざまな事業が予定されています。その事業の一つとして，浜松青年会議所の方々が中心となって「浜響サポーターズ･クラブ」の発足が検討されています。

　このクラブは，団員と演奏会に来てくださる皆さんや，縁の下で支えてくれている皆さんとのふれあいを目的としています。現段階では，具体的なイメージはまだ何もできあがっていません。でもその「場」で「何か」を生み出すためには，演奏者（＝発信者）と聴衆（＝受信者）という関係だけでは，何だか物足りないような気がしています。

　コーヒーハウスで最初に起こったことを想像してみると，例えばみんなで分け隔てなく深夜まで議論を重ねたり，できあがった小説や服や音楽を評価したり，それこそみんなで寄ってたかって「何か」を作り上げていく，という過程が必要なのだと思います。

　コーヒーハウスで生まれた「何か」は，今では「文化」とよばれて，われわれの営みに欠かせないものになりました。浜響サポーターズ･クラブで生まれるだろう「何か」も，この町を豊かにしてくれる「文化」となるのでしょうか。
